God cannot be known by reading

Now a days many spiritual aspirants feel that God can be known merely by intellectual understanding of scriptures or books. They remain satisfied by reading numerous books and philosophies. Even four Vedas, six Shastras, eighteen Puranas and countless texts put together cannot know Him. Can a fetus know the mother completely? It's similar to that.
